DESCRIPTION:
An incredibly rare, highly collectible piece of British television and horological history. This original mid-century character pocket watch features the beloved characters Rag (the hedgehog), Tag (the mouse), and Bobtail (the rabbit) from the classic 1950s BBC children's television series "Watch with Mother".
Most importantly, this vintage watch WORKS PERFECTLY! It winds smoothly, sets easily, and keeps time with a loud, satisfying, healthy mechanical tick.
Key Features and Condition Details:
  • Historical Provenance: Internal stamping reads "5812", officially dating the movement assembly to December 1958.
  • Dial and Artwork: The colorful character illustration is beautifully preserved, sharp, and vibrant. Marked "Made in Great Britain" at the bottom of the face.
  • Case Condition: Genuine vintage condition. The chrome-plated case shows expected minor micro-scratches, gentle surface marks, and pocket wear consistent with its 60+ year age, giving it a fantastic authentic patina. No major dents.
  • Crystal: Clear acrylic lens with typical light surface scuffs from use, but no deep cracks or structural damage obscuring the face.
  • Movement: Features the robust, zero-jewel Anglo-Celtic TY pin-lever mechanical movement manufactured at the famous Ystradgynlais factory in Wales.
Given that these "dollar watches" were originally treated as disposable items and worn hard by children, finding a 1950s regional TV tie-in variant in fully functional, running condition is exceptionally rare.
Perfect for vintage toy, television, or British pocket watch collectors!
